Hi, I'm Mylène
I am currently a Lecturer at the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Bristol. Prior to this, I had teaching and research roles at Kingston University (UX/UI Design) and University of Sussex (Business and Innovation Management) and worked collaboratively with many other academic and non-academic institutions, organisations and industry.

Before joining academia. I worked in the computer games industry at Microsoft Xbox, Sony Playstation and other game development studios. I worked in technical, creative and marketing roles.
About Me.
My teaching and research interests focus on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), responsible design and innovation, sustainable entrepreneurship as well as the ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI). I also draw on my research in the ethics of AI. My PhD addressed the impact of emotion recognition technologies on people and society. My recent work at the Ada Lovelace Institute explored solutions for research ethics committees in industry and academia to address the emerging risks of data science and AI research. I also draw on my understanding of complex human-machine-society interactions gained during my BA in Politics and Sociology and MSc in Technology and Innovation Management. In my teaching and research, I build on my expertise in Science and Technology Studies (STS) as an interdisciplinary field that examines design and innovation in its cultural, political, and economic contexts.
Education
2016-2023
PhD Design Research
Kingston University
My PhD in Design Research explored responsible, human-centered design of Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. I examined the production and use of emotion recognition technology as an example of an AI system with a potentially profound impact on people and society and developed a framework for ethical design of AI systems.
2008-2009
MSc Technology and Innovation Management
University of Sussex
During my MSc in Technology and Innovation Management, I gained the skills to manage innovation at operational and strategic levels. The management of innovation is inherently interdisciplinary and multi-functional, and the modules provided an integrative approach to the management of innovation.
1993-1998
BA Politics and Sociology
Freie Universitat Berlin
The BA Politics and Sociology included a wide range of topics from modern political theory, political philosophy, democracy, local and global governance, comparative political systems to sustainability.
